DRS new Chief General Tartag “breaks the myth” of his predecessor General Toufik!
General Athmane Tartag, the newly-appointed Chief of the DRS Intelligence Services, has surprised a lot of people by appearing before the media at the meeting of “Afripol” held Sunday in Algiers.
Indeed, it was during this broad-based meeting of Directors General and Inspectors of African police, called “Afripol”, staged at the Aurassi Hotel in upper Algiers that General Tartag, sitting in the front row next to the Director of Civil Protection, found himself in the limelight by being widely photographed by press reporters.
This appearance was dubbed as timely, after the much-debated open letter of his predecessor General Mohamed Médienne also called “Toufik”, who for 25 years had not shown himself in public.
Thus, this public appearance of General Tartag has disavowed the “secret style” harboured by the former DRS Chief and breaks completely away with the protracted “mystery” that surrounded the latter.
It is also meant to send General “Toufik” a clear message that the DRS Intelligence Service is henceforth an institution like all the others as part of a Civilian State.
Through this brand-new style breathed into the DRS, General Athmane Tartag smashed the long-running myth of the so-called “Lord of Algeria” and “Presidents’ Maker”.
