E.U asks Algeria to hand over electoral lists before 2014 Presidential polls
The head of the European Union’s parliamentary delegation, Pier Antonio Panzeri, has declared that his visit to Algeria is primarily aimed at assessing the progress achieved in the smooth implementation of the political reforms initiated by President Abdellaziz Bouteflika since April 2011.
Taking the floor on Wednesday at the E.U offices mission in Algiers, Mr Antonio Panzeri indicated the visiting E.U parliamentarians noted that the political reforms in Algeria had crossed several positive stages but they’ve so far not achieved the required objectives notably in terms of individual, collective and Trade Union freedoms’, he added.
He further underlined that the E.U MP’s visit was also designed to pave the way for the holding of a just, equitable and transparent ballot during the upcoming presidential elections slated for April 2014 as their did previously for the country’s legislative polls held last year.
In this connection, Mr Antonio Panzeri requested from the Algerian authorities to issue in due time the exhaustive electoral lists ahead of the presidential polls, adding that a delegation of European MP’s would pay another fact-finding visit to Algeria in the very near future for that matter.
