Echorouk organises sit-in at Libya embassy in Algiers (video)
Algeria’s daily newspaper Echorouk Al Yaoumi organised a sit-in Wednesday next to the Libyan embassy in Algiers in protest about massacres perpetrated by the regime against citizens.
- The newspaper’s staff including its director and a number of personalities including the general commander of the Algerian Islamic Scout Nourredine Ben Braham, the chief of the International Forum for Muslim Women Aicha Belhadjar and some people took part in the demonstration.
- The demonstrators held placards showing ironic cartoons about the Libyan leader Maamar Gaddafi asking to find a psychologist to treat him. They shouted “Gaddafi you are a coward…1,000 martyrs are not rats,” (in response to his Tuesday’s speech as he described Libyan protestors as rats), “There is no god but Allah and Gaddafi is Allah’s enemy,” “Gaddafi you are crazy.” They called on the Libyan ambassador to Algeria to resign and shouted “get out ambassador…people want you to resign.”
- Palestinian journalist writer Saleh Awad delivered an allocution to condemn massacres in Libya. He called on thye Libyan ambassador to Algiers to come to demonstrators instead of keeping silence. He asked him to resign like Libyan ambassadors and diplomats who stood by the Libyan people’s side.
