Education: School canteens conducted with archaic law

School canteens reach more than 14,000 at the national level, as the price of the meal is 55 ZDZ. On the other hand SNTE syndicate confirmed that the school canteens are still conducted under the Law which was issued since 25 years ago, in light of a fatal lack of workers, especially the cookers, as the schools usually resort to the cleaners.

Education Ministry sent, through the Inspectorate of school feeding, a correspondence No. 116, to the managers of school canteens and advisers of the school feeding in the provinces, on the subject of opening and conducting the school canteens for the first four months of 2015, urging the need to respect numerous instructions, the most important of them is opening the school canteens, which are 14,000 in the country, in front of the beneficiaries, next Sunday to coincide with the school entry, as the days of management are specified with 54 days, with an average of four days per week, from Sunday until Thursday, with deleting the Tuesdays and reducing the number of days of feeding, and this would deprive pupils from taking advantage of the meals, on the grounds that they live in isolated areas, and they live far from their residence.

National Secretary in charge of Organization at the National Syndicate of Education Workers, Kouider Yahiaoui, told Echorouk,that it is impossible for the primary schools’ managers to open school canteens on the first day of the new school-Year, which will be next Sunday, on the grounds that the Director is obliged to hold the “Council of conduct” that includes the head of the municipal council comprising the heads and director of the primary school, the adviser to the school feeding and a representative of the school health as members, to set the “financier”, as these procedures take a long time, which may lead to the delay of opening canteens in some municipalities that suffer obstruction to more than a month, stressing in the same context, that even if they will be opened in the right time, the cold meals will are distributed to beneficiaries.
