Egyptian publishers excluded from Algiers International Book Fair

Algiers International Book Fair Commissioner, Ismail Ameziane has yesterday conformed in a declaration to Echourok the exclusion of the Egyptians from the 15th session of this event due to take place next October at the Olympic stadium her in Algiers.Ameziane has revealed “ The decision to exclude the Egyptian publishers is natural reaction to the spiteful campaign launched the Egyptians through their satellite channels against the Algerian people, they have insulted our symbols and the Algerians didn’t overcome this crisis”.

  •
  • He added in this respect” His institution cannot be responsible for the security of the Egyptian delegation and their luggage in case of troubles with zealous youngsters who could lose their control, which very understandable”.
  •
  • He further added “ what really affected me as a person, is the base campaign that lasted months and weeks against the Algerian people and authorities led by the Egyptian literary men, politicians, artists and writers who were at the forefront of this smear campaign and called for the boycott of Algeria culturally ad artistically” .
  •
  • As to the complaint lodged by the Egyptian Publishers Union before the Arab Publishers Union, M Ameziane has indicated “ Our institution doesn’t deal with the Arab Publishers’ Union but with the countries’ Unions separately; consequently, the Arab Union has no right to interfere in our business”.
  •
  • Replying to a question concerning some attempts from Arab countries to defuse the crisis between Algeria and Egypt, he said “ Our institution didn’t receive a formal correspondence, all the contacts were made verbally from countries like Syria and Lebanon” then raised a question” Where were these mediators when the Egyptian artists were insulting the Algerian people on their channels calling for a boycott”.
  •
  •
  • He has also ruled out the fact that the absence of the Egyptian publishers from this cultural event would impact on the fair saying that more than 100 Arab publishers from Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Libya, Tunisia and Morocco have conformed their attendance.
