Examining judge to hear 11 terrorists once again in Algeria

Accusation chamber in a court in Algiers ordered last week to open a complementary investigation into 11 terror-related cases. The suspects have been jailed since last summer for being involved in abduction and supporting Abdelhamid Abu Zid’s terrorist group, Echorouk has learnt.

  Most of the suspects come from the province of Illizi (south of Algiers) and they have familial relations with terrorist Abu Zid. Fathers with their children would have been in prison. They are aged between 23 and 55, judicial sources told Echorouk.

  The 11 terrorists are prosecuted for belonging to a terrorist group and being involved in drug smuggling.

  Investigations started following suspicious acts conducted by Abu Zid’s brother. They showed that he is involved in money laundry. The money has resulted from kidnappings since 2003.

  Investigators are working on finding out Abu Zid’s real identity to confirm whether his real name is Ghadir Mohamed who left home in 1993.

  There are some evidences against the suspects as their previous phone calls were tracked. Abu Zid’s brother and son told investigators the terrorist leader in the Algerian desert is Mohamed Ghadir who is their relative.
