Faints and wounded among students in protests in Algeria

More than 11 students were wounded Monday as they tried to escape anti-riots police next to the higher education ministry’s headquarters in Algiers. Tens of students fainted because of rush in protests.

  •
  • The police surrounded the students about 100 metres from the ministry’s headquarters. A night before, a number of students came from far provinces and preferred to spend the night next to the ministry to express opposition to equivalence between education classical system and the LMD system.
  •
  •
  • The protesting students used political slogans which have nothing to do with pedagogical claims such as “Students Want to Change the Regime. Harraoubia (higher education minister) get out, Failed Government.”
  •
  • Anti-riots police surrounded the students while some of them climbed the walls of the High School for Planning and Statistics. A number of them escaped the police and went to the ministry’s headquarters.
