Farid Bedajaoui is free in New York
Farid Bedjaoui who is a main suspect in the Sonatrach scandals is enjoying freedom as he has recently bought a real-estate in the US and he conducted many transactions. This comes as an arrest warrant was issued for him by the Algerian and Italian justice on corruption charges.
According to news reports, the Algerian “golden boy” has tens of banking accounts in Switzerland, Luxembourg, Lebanon, Singapore, Hong Kong and the UAE. He also has tens of cars in those countries.
An Italian newspaper reported that Bedjaoui has a 20-million-dollar luxury real-estate in Manhattan.
Investigations showed that he obtained 200 million euros from Italy’s Saipem as part of what he called “financial mediation services” he alleged that he performed them in Algeria.
Earlier, the Algerian justice issued an arrest warrant for former energy minister Chakib Khalil, his wife, his two sons and Farid Bedjaoui. He is his main assistant in suspicious transactions as part of deals between Sonatrach with many operators including Saipem.
