Turkish Paper Hurriyet is reporting that Fenerbahce looking to sign Karim Matmour, who currently plies his trade for Bundesliega outfit Borussia Moenchangladbach.

The 24-year-old of Strasbourg has exploded into life this season, producing a number of good performances that have aroused the interest of several clubs over the continent.

The Istanbul giants were reportedly chasing Matmour, a former Freiburg player, last summer but seem destined to face increased competition for the burgeoning talent in the January window.

“It’s true that they were interested in me,” the player said of the summer movements. “A representative of mine got the offer and talked to both sides. Since then I have not spoken to anyone as I wanted to first concentrate on the [World Cup play-off] against Egypt.

Villarreal and Werder Bremen are two other sides reportedly keeping tabs on the player, who is contracted to Gladbach until 2012. A transfer fee would therefore be an issue, but there is no indication as to the two clubs’ valuation of the player.
Matmour has been an ever-present so far this season, but has only one goal to his credit, thanks largely to his successful switch to the right wing.
