Finance Ministry to expand list of products to be imported under license

The Ministry of Finance is currently studying the possibility of expanding the list of products to be imported under licenses to reduce imports of foreign currency bills.

Indeed, after an additional list of agricultural products and meat which was being considered by the committee in charge of issuing import licensing in order to submit to it to this new device, the Finance ministry plans to expand the list of products to be imported under license.

According to Echorouk sources, in addition to the existing five products, four other products will also be subjected to import licenses notably livestock feed, electronics and household appliances.

The move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to prop up domestic production and curtail a little bit the “bleeding” of Algeria’s hard currency reserves in times of austerity in the aftermath of the drastic slump in oil prices on the world market.
