Fire fighters to stage sit-in next to Parliament in Algiers
Fire fighters are expected to stage sit-in Thursday next to Parliament and the General Union of Algerian workers’ headquarters in Algiers to express their professional and social concerns.
- The sit-in will be led by the Coordination of Fire Fighters and the National Union of Fire Fighters. Protesters will ask for reviewing some decisions they describe as “unfair.”
- Fire fighters complain of being prevented from travelling only upon a written permit, judicial prosecutions and delay in meeting their concerns.
- They ask authorities to organise working hours, to grant financial compensation for working extra time, to raise their salary and to guarantee opportunities equality in promotion.
- The Union asks for freedom of activity practice in working place and authorising general assemblies to renew union branches.
