Flight AH5017 crash: “Swift Air” crew suffered fatigue, An e-mail leaked to a steward says
An e-mail that was leaked by “Swift Air” Spanish company’s aircraft that was leased by Air Algerie, and which crashed in northern Mali, last July, revealed a lot of information on the cause of the crash, confirming that the crew was subjected to hard time work that reached seven days on seven.
Same e-mail predicted the crash and problems in the near future if the situation will remain unchanged.
According to the e-mail that a steward of the crashed plane sent to his senior responsible in the company, five days before the accident, there is an issue that concerned everyone, and will turn into a serious problem in the near future, as he told him: “I have decided to email you, on behalf of all the plane’s crew on the issue that concerns all of us, and we believe it will turn into a serious problem in the near future.”
The e-mail was published by the French News Channel “BFM” TV added; “We have discovered a dangerous physical and moral fatigue that is suffered by everyone while working alternately. The crew found difficulties while maintaining attention and alertness during the takeoff and landing. It has become very difficult to maintain attention and alertness during landing and take-off, during the last days of the shift work.”
It also revealed on a shift system for the flights that was described as very burdensome, and imposed flights on seven consecutive days, and with very short rest periods that are not in line with the international standards, adding that the crew lived an unprecedented anxiety.
