Algerians lived frenziedly, like other peoples across the world, the outstanding “Classico”, the much-awaited football match between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona played on Saturday evening at the Camp Nou stadium of Barcelone (Spain).

The thrilling match between the two Spanish football giants triggered as usual an utmost fervor and enthusiasm on the part of the supporters of the two arch-rival clubs and the frenzied atmosphere ignited at the end of the game which was won by Real Madrid by two goals to one.

It should noted that while the match was being broadcast on TV, the streets of Algiers and elsewhere in the country were virtually deserted by the population given the great attractiveness of such a “Classico” for most football lovers in Algeria like in the rest of the world.

The after-match was profusely commented by the fans of the two super teams notably in cafes, schools, universities or at work across the country with each of them endeavouring to extol the value and potency of their cherished team claiming that their squad is better than their rival.

On the festive occasion, fans from all walks of life brought out the emblems and jerseys of their respective team in a coloured and good-natured atmosphere to the delight of the children, teenagers and adults alike in various part of the country in addition to many of them indulging in free-wheeling and endless comments about the ins and outs of this exciting football fixture on social networks namely Facebook and Twitter.
