Reliable sources uncovered new details in the case of the death of Algerian diplomat, Mohand Amokrane Ben Mokhtar, who was working as an attache at the Algerian consulate in Lyon, France.
They confirmed that the real reasons behind the incident, contrary to what has been promoted, is that he committed suicide because he had not accepted the decision of being summoned to return to work in Algeria.
“Mohand Amokrane was lately subjected to great pressure, since about three months, in order to employ a relative of an employee who is working in the same consulate, because the law forbids the presence of officials from such close degree of relativity, who work in the same diplomatic or consular mission.”
“In front of the insistence of the late consul on refusing to meet the demand of employment, the employee who works with him in Lyon, returned to Algeria, to pressurize him with his father, a former Minister in Sellal’s Second government, but the consul insisted on the refusal to apply favoritism in the consulate, based on the mechanism that is governing the recruitment procedures in this sector since independence.”
“With the increasing pressure on Amokrane and his continued refusal to hire that person, it was decided to summon him to Algeria, despite the fact that the law determines the diplomatic job or the task of a consul abroad in four years, and since he spent only two years in office, having children studying in France, he decided to commit suicide, leaving a message of apologizing to his wife.”
Previously, Foreign Ministry’ s spokesman, Abdelaziz Benali Cherif, announced that Ben Mokhtar Mohand Amokrane, attache at the General Consulate General of Algeria in Lyon, aged 54 years, died in “circumstances that need clarification”, before it sent a team led by Inspector General of the Ministry “in order to shed light on the circumstances which they occurred in this tragedy” and this by opening a thorough investigation in the case, hoping to reach the real reasons behind the suicide.”
