France: Planned demonstrations outside the Algerian Embassy and Consulates
Associations have called on members of the Algerian community settled abroad to demonstrate outside the Embassy of Algeria in Paris and various Consulates in France.
As a matter of fact, these demonstrations scheduled for Sunday, February 7th 2016, are meant to condemn Article 51 of the Constitutional revision whose ratification will take place on that very day in Algiers by both Houses of Parliament.
They argue that this contentious article discriminates against dual nationals who would be barred from having access to high state functions in Algeria.
The Association of Algerians of both shores of the Mediterranean and 14 other associations are calling the Sunday demonstrations to prompt parliamentarians to assume their full responsibilities, if they were to vote for this controversial article and to simply abolish it, so as to safeguard the unity of the Algerians and to ensure equality among them.
