France Still Reject Apologizing For Its Colonial Past In Algeria

French Foreign Minister has reiterated the rejection of his country to apologize for its colonial past in Algeria, calling the two parties to look ahead to the future rather than being trapped in the past.

Speaking at the joint conference press with his Algerian counterpart, Mr Mourad Medelci, Mr Juppe has quoted President Sarkozy’s words when asked in 2007 to apologize for the crimes committed by the colonial Ffrance in Algeria. Juppe said “It is true that the colonial regime was not fair,” rejecting, meanwhile, to adhere into any process leading to ultimately apologize.

The top French diplomat further added that Algiers and Paris have to look forward into a brighter future, rather than stick on the past.

He further defended Algeria against accusations that it is providing mercenaries and military support to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi’s regime.

Mr Juppe dismissed those accusations as “unfounded” and maintained that according to his talks with Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, the country continues to respect U.N. Security Council resolutions.
