France wants Algeria to be stable, says Ambassador
France’s Ambassador to Algeria André Parant held meetings on Wednesday with two-different-tendency parties: the MSP and the RCD. They talked about political situation in Algeria including the presidential elections due to be held in 2014.
The MSP said the meeting came upon request from Parant as part of a series of meetings between the French embassy and political stockholders in Algeria to understand events and develop relations between the two countries.
The French Ambassador said his country wants Algeria to be stable, according to a release posted on the MSP’s website.
The MSP’s leader Abderrezak Makri talked about the tendencies of his party regarding western policies in the region and the use of democracy to serve the big nations’ interest.
He said he believes that no stability in the whole world can be reached if democratic standards are not respected.
“The MSP made a lot of sacrifices for Algeria’s stability and does not accept any threat. It will continue serving the country as part of opposition choice and political resistance to reach political reform with an Algerian will. This is possible and will be achieved one day,” he added.
Earlier, the French Ambassador met with the RCD’s leader Mohcine Belabes and a number of its executives at the party’s headoffice in El Biar in Algiers.
The RCD said in a release the Ambassador and the party’s executives analyzed economic and political situation in Algeria.
The RCD gave its point of view about events and their possible impact on stability.
Belabes also met with Jil Djadid party’s leader Djilali Sofiane in a consultative meeting following his meeting with former head of government Ahmed Benbitour.
The RCD reiterated its call for implementing Article No 88 of the Constitution and the creation of a special and independent committee to supervise elections.
