Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, received Monday in Algiers, the visiting Interior Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Thomas de Maiziere.

The meeting allowed the two sides to “address, in particular, bilateral relations both in the security sphere and in that of the movement of people”.

The encounter was, moreover, “the opportunity to exchange views on topical international and regional issues of common concern, including the latest developments unfolding in the sub-region,” a statement from the Premiership office said.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of the Interior and Local Assemblies Noureddine Bedoui and the German Minister of the Interior and Sports of the Saarland, Klaus Bouillon, and the German Minister of the Interior of Saxony, Markus Ulbig.

The German Interior Minister, Thomas de Maiziere, started Sunday a tour of Maghreb countries including Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia in order to hasten the implementation of measures concerning the deportation of illegal refugees to these three Maghrebian countries described by Germany “safe countries”.

The German minister said, in a statement to the press that his country “could study the granting of aid” to these three countries to identify their nationals who will be the object of deportation from Germany.

He pointed to the necessity of “resorting to new techniques such as the use of biometrics as authentication of identities” of these undocumented people, adding that “his tour of the region  is to upgrade cooperation mechanisms to be used in the repatriation process of nationals of the Maghreb countries including around 1,600 Algerians who are required to leave Germany”.
