The Algiers Province Department will hold a meeting with security officials Wednesday to decide about a solidarity march in support of Palestinian people in Gaza. The government initially authorized associations and to take to the street in the capital, Echorouk has learnt.

“A meeting will be held on Wednesday with all the associations which condemn the Israeli attacks on Palestinian people,” said Ali Draa, representative of the Algerian Popular Commission in Support of Palestinian People in Gaza.

“The MSP movement will make an official request on behalf of the Popular Commission’s members to the Algiers Province Department to get permission for a peaceful march,” he told Echorouk.

Marches have been banned in Algiers for 13 years since the so-called “Berber Spring” violent events.

Earlier on Monday, Secretary General of Workers’ Party Louisa Hanoune announced that her party will hold its first rally in the capital this week in support of Gaza.

She said Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal is not against marches in Algiers and other provinces to show solidarity to Palestinian people in Gaza and to condemn the Israeli attacks on innocents.
