Green Card: US embassy warns against money swindling
The US embassy in Algiers Wednesday warned the Algerian nationals who participated in the Green Card programme against money swindling.
- The embassy said the swindling process starts by an e-mail sent to applicants asking them to transmit money to an unreal person at the embassy in London.
- The Green Card process is supposed to be conducted for free.
- Applicants can find out whether they were successful or not by checking the official website www.dvlottery.state.gov. They have to enter their subscription number.
- Kentucky Consular Center Information does not allow any company to inform the applicants about the lottery result. Applicants can never be informed of the result through e-mail or mail.
- Applicants can know their situation through the official website starting from May 1st until June 30th 2011.
- The embassy says there are websites which offer authorised services to help people in applying for visa. On the other hand, there are illegitimate institutions which offer services as a cover to swindle money.
- It called on citizens to notify about any swindling operation by contacting the US embassy or consulate. Complaints can be sent to the US justice department through the following address: www.usdoj.gov/spam.htm
