Algeria’s former head of government Mouloud Hamrouche said Algeria’s participation in France’s July 14th celebrations is not a shame as it is recognition of the Algerian identity and Algerian people’s sacrifices during the First and Second World Wars.
Hamrouche said France has denied Algeria’s identity since the colonization era while Algerians were part of the World Wars I and II for France’s freedom and Algeria’s independence.
This comes as Algerian foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra said Algeria will participate in France’s July 14 independence celebrations. This raised anger among some Algerians as their country had been occupied by France for more than a century.
