Helpline “I Hear You 3033” saved 1.700 Algerian kids from sexual assault in a year

Algerian Network for Children “NADA” published in its annual report on the situation of kids in Algeria in 2014, on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day, as revealed in a statement, which copy is available to Echorouk.

“NADA” annual report shows a black reality an terrifying numbers that are rising from year to year, in light of the absence of a law to protect children in Algeria, which is still under consultations and locked in drawers and Archives. 

Same reported started with the deployment of the latest figures relating to the experience of the hotline, “I hear you 3033” which spread to all the cities, and has become the last refuge for a large number of children who have found in this figure a refuge and an outlet, to reveal their daily problems and suffering. 

Hotline “I hear you 3033” received in the period from June 1, 2013 to June 1, 2014, more than 16115 children from different regions of the country, of whom 4787 children have been subjected to abuse and economic exploitation in labor and begging, while 2465 children were victim of family disintegration as a result of divorce, conflicts between parents and relatives.

More seriously, the special report on the Green Number shows that 913 kids asked specialists to save them from sexual assault, rape and harassment against them within the family environment by parents, relatives and brothers, while 645 kids asked for saving them from sexual exploitation by prostitution cells, which trades them in the streets and dark halls, which means that the sexual assaults were against 1.700 kids, who resorted to the Green Number call.

Concerning the Constitutional Amendments “NADA” network called for amending several articles that did not provide complete protection for the child, like the commitment to physical examination for kids, who are victims of assaults and bad treatment, as it proposed the need to add a psychological examination as well, in addition to raising the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 16 years old, and provide protection for the various categories of childhood without discrimination.
