“Hilton” scraps license for “Conference for change” but Coordination sticks to the event

Against all expectations, the management of the Hilton hotel located on the eastern outskirts of Algiers has scrapped the license initially granted to the opposition-led Coordination for freedoms and democratic transition for the holding there of a so-called national conference for change slated to be organized on June 10th 2014 in the presence of several opposition figures and national personalities.

Hilton’s management body justified its decision by the lack of an adequate conference hall in the hotel’s premises to host the event and proposed instead the availability of the so-called “Tassili Hall” way back on May 21st, a proposal turned down as inappropriate by the organizers of the projected conference.

In the relevant letter sent by the Hilton’s management to the organizers of which Echorouk got a copy, the trade manager of the hotel said quote: “Thank you for the attention you give to our facility, we have received with interest your request but we regret not to be able to fulfill your request for the holding of your conference because our hotel lacks the required facilities to this effect”, unquote.

Echorouk reporters endeavored to get in touch with the Hilton management for more explanations but to no avail as no senior executive in charge of the file was available for clarifications on the matter.

Informed sources told Echorouk that the Coordination had earlier agreed to pay 90 million centimes (DA) for the holding of the planned conference for change at the Hilton Hotel but the latter’s management body has abruptly reversed the situation through their refusal to shelter such an event for still unexplained reasons.
