Historic leader of revolution Lakhdar Bentobal passes away
Lakhdar Bentobal, called Si Abdellah, one of the historic leader of the Revolution passed away Saturday night, his family announced.
- Lakhdar Bentobal was born in 1923 in Mila, started his activism within national Movement since 1940. He adhered to the Algerian people party (PPA) and became a leader of the party in the region of Mila. Member of the Special Organization (OS) in 1947/48 in the north of Constantine, he was wanted by colonial authorities and was sentenced in absentia in 1951 in the OS members’ trial. Lakhdar Bentobal became a member of the National Council of Revolution (CNRA) issued after Soummam congress in August 1956 then of the coordination and execution committee (CCE). In September 1956, he became leader of Wilaya II, succeeding to Zighout Youcef who was killed in action, then was promoted colonel.
