Hundreds of Pharmacy Students protest in Algiers

Hundreds of Algerian pharmacy students, coming from various cities, staged a sit-in here on Sunday out of the government palace in Algiers, bradishing banners that call upon the Prime Minister to intervene and rescue them from the lost year, and meet their demands after the Ministry of Education failed in taking actions.

Pharmacy students protested last week before the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and plan another sit-in for next Wednesday before the President Palace, saying they will escalate the protest movement if government will not respond to their demands.

“Pharmacy students were received by the Chief of Staff of the PM after three hours sit-in. He said the PM will meet our demands”, Fida Eddine, a pharmacy student and spokesman of the National Coordination of Pharmacy Students asserted.

“Pharmacy students will not participate in the protests of April 12 in order to stay away from any political overtones. Our demands related to the basic law, doctorate for pharmacy graduates and the opening of branches for industrial pharmacy”, he added.
