Hunger-striker Meriem Mehdi to retrieve her post in British Gas

The Algerian labour minister Tayeb Louh has announced that the firm “ British Gas” has given the go ahead for the return of Meriem Mehdi , who went on hunger strike, to her post as administration manager and stand for her flat rent in the region of Hassi Messaoud, (Southern Algeria).

• The minister‘s declaration was made during a meeting that took pace the day before yesterday with representatives of Meriem Mehdi’s supporting committee. He  indicated that the British company had yielded and was ready to pay the plaintiff’s rent.
• The case has stirred up a large wave of controversy and prompted a spontaneous reaction from several Unions and other political figures in the country. To recall, Meriem Mehdi was improperly sacked along with more than 250 employees from the same company working in gas fields in the southern province of Ouargla.
• She started her hunger strike more than 50 days ago and lost more than 50 % of her weight.
