IMF: Algeria should purify public expenses and launch big reforms
Archive

The International Monetary Fund called on Algeria to continue purifying the State’s public expenses and start reforms by opening the door to private sector.

The head of International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Algeria Jean François Dauphin Monday said the State should purify public expenses.

He added that oil shock weakened the Sate’s capacity of continuing funding with the same level as in the past.

He also stressed the necessity of conducting “big reforms” to help the reform of the economic modal. This aims at boosting growth by the private sector and being less dependent on hydrocarbons.

The IMF’s mission is on a visit to Algeria between November 14th and 21th. Meetings will be held with many ministers and heads of financial institutions (the Bank of Algeria, the Public Treasury).
