Important for Kuwaitis, Algerians to know each other''s culture — curator

By Fetiha Zamamouche (with photos) ALGIERS, June 22 (KUNA) — It is important for brotherly nations to hold activities and meetings that would introduce each other's peoples to their unique culture and history, as that would strengthen bonds between them, stressed Head of Kuwait House for National Works Museum Yusuf Al-Amiri on Tuesday.

• The figure told KUNA this is the idea behind the current visit to Algeria, upon invitation of the Algerian Minister of Culture. He said he met several ministry officials and reviewed the goals and functions of the house so far during the visit.

• The figure said he also discussed a project agreement to set up a Kuwait House pavilion in Algeria. The agreement also covers setup of an Algerian museum pavilion in Kuwait, he pointed out. “Having been well received by Algerian officials, this project and agreement would be approved and initiated very soon.” On his meetings with officials, he said he discussed exchange of cultural events to showcase the two countries’ culture and history. He recalled the Kuwaiti culture week organized in Algeria in 2007 as an example.
• Algeria had been selected as Arab Culture Capital that year.
• Al-Amiri also recalled the Algerian week in Kuwait organized recently by the Algerian ministry of culture, during which the invitation for the current visit was extended.
• On Kuwait House for National Works, the figure said the museum is a cultural landmark, as it records the Kuwaiti people’s defiance and resistance during the Saddam 1990 occupation of their homeland.
• The curator expressed gratitude for and recalled the support to all museum initiatives generously granted by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah in particular.
• Al-Amiri also expressed appreciation for the support of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Algeria and Ambassador Faisal Al-Deweish for their support regarding this visit and attempts to foster further cooperation.
• Al-Amiri met with Minister of War Veterans Mohamed Cherif Abbas and reviewed a proposal and project to construct a mega Kuwaiti museum which would showcase culture and history of 80 Arab, Islamic, and other countries.
• The idea was well received by the minister, who considered such landmark a means to further integrate peoples and bring them closer.
• Al-Amiri also visited the Mujahid (veteran) Museum and Army Museum, which reflected a long and rich history.
• The Kuwaiti curator is accompanied for the visit by museum council of trustees member and executive director Dr. Salman Al-Asousi, as well as member Nasser Burashed.
