Head of Algerian Exporters’ Association Ali Bey Nasri Sunday said more than 9,000 imported products were out of customs surveillance. The State did not gain profit due to tax evasion. The new tariff set by the government and which came into force on September 18th will unveil importers who cheated the State.

Nasri described the new customs procedure as a “historic decision” as it will enable the government to know the real number of products which enter its borders.

“Algeria did not have real figures about imported products and the number of importers. A large number of them had fake commercial registers,” he told Echorouk.

“The new customs tariff enabled to report 15,946 imported products. Figures show that more than 9,000 products were out of customs surveillance,” he added.

“From now on, every imported product from cars to needles will be under surveillance,” he said.

He believes that the new tariff will oblige every importer to pay taxes.

Customs administration called on economic operators to take all the necessary measures to respect the new procedure.

This procedure comes to reduce importing bill which has become a heavy burden on the State. National economy has been affected by the importing policy.

It will also enable to ensure more clarity as part of negotiations to join the World Trade Organization and revise the Association Agreement with the European Union.
