Insurance companies delay compensations for 25.000 victims of road accidents

Public and private insurance companies have failed until late July to sort out up to 25 thousand files of Algerian drivers insured against road accidents. This huge delay in file-processing by these failing insurance companies will deprive them until further notice to secure their financial compensations from the finance ministry in line with the rules and regulations in force.

Well informed sources told Echorouk that the huge accumulation of unprocessed files in limbo since the year 2011

after the registration of road accidents is behind this enormous delay in the proper financial indemnification of the

insured citizens.

This is also compounded by the simmering conflicts involving the various agencies working for the insurance companies about the timely pinpointing of the exact cause of the different road accidents in addition to the serious lapses recorded in the carrying out of the required technical expertise on those vehicles involved in road accidents over the past few years.

Replying to Echorouk’s queries about this lingering logjam, the chairman of the Union of insurance and re-insurance companies, Amara Latrous, said however that he was currently putting the final touches to a final and comprehensive report on the matter to be submitted to the finance ministry.

He added that there was all likelihood that this pending compensation issue would be resolved by the end of the year 2014.
