International gang specialized in money forgery dismantled in eastern Algeria

Elements of tyhe national gendarmerie of the province of Tebessa, eastern Algeria, have the day before yesterday busted an international gang specialized in the forgery of hard currency in the tiny town of Al Ouanza.

• The group comprises Algerian citizens and foreign nationals who were arrested in their possession a large quantity of red mercury, drug and forged foreign passports.

• The group made up of 14 elements aged between 25 and 40 was arrested following intelligence that a car licensed in Algiers was carrying suspicious elements heading for Al Ounza to pass forged bills.

• The security services have set up an ambush for them and arrested four elements in their possession 137 bank bills with a value of 100 and 200 Euros and 5 others dwelling in the city of Al Ounza who were due to sell forged bills or bargain them.

• The public prosecutor has issued a search warrant crowned with the discovery of a quantity of 120 grams of red mercury estimated at dozens of billions in local currency and drug destined for consumption.

• The convicts were presented on Thursday before the attorney who forwarded the case to the examining magistrate to carrying on the proceedings.
