International network involved in smuggling gold thorough the port of Algiers

Elements of the Algerian border police have foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantities of gold from the port of Marseille, France to Algeria by an international network with the complicity of Algerian sailors.

  • The operation wound up with the seizure of 64 KGS of gold with a value estimated at more than 40 million Algerian Dinars packed in three backpacks left in the parking of the vessel “Tarek Ibn Ziyad”.
  •
  • The packs were discovered by cleaners during their inspection visit but hesitate to open them for fear of containing explosive devices, then alerted the security forces at the port. The vessel was immediately transferred from peer 11 , known for its hectic activity, to the peer 9 and inspected thoroughly before discovering the illegal goods.
  •
  • The seizure came at a time where an investigation was launched by the court of Algiers in the case of an Algerian immigrant involved in the smuggling of 85 KGS of pure gold from Marseille to Algiers who was transporting illegally in his luxurious car the mentioned goods, judicial sources have revealed.
  •
  • The gross total value of the gold seized by the customs services is estimated at more than 50 million Algerian Dinars.
