Issuing of emergency passports for Algerians settled abroad
The Algerian authorities have outlined the conditions for the establishment and issuance of emergency passports for the benefit of members of our national community settled abroad.
As a matter of fact, this emergency passport is issued exceptionally in favor of those Algerian citizens residing abroad or who are staying temporarily in a country other than that of their residence and registered at a diplomatic or consular representation, and having no biometric passport, and who, for family, professional, administrative or health reasons, are forced to move in an emergency outside the country of their residence.
The move also concerns non-registered Algerian citizens at a diplomatic or consular post, and whose regularization file regarding their immigration status, in terms of stay, has been endorsed by the authorities of the host country and requiring a passport validity as well as those Algerian citizens who are temporarily living abroad, and whose passport has been lost, damaged or stolen and being forced to join one or more foreign countries before their return to Algeria.
Moreover, the validity of the emergency passport is fixed at a maximum of one year starting from the date of its issuing and may in no case be extended.
In so doing, the emergency passport’s application file includes the filled form signed by the person concerned or by the legal guardian for minors, with the addition of the fingerprint of the left index of the applicant and an enclosed a copy of the expired passport, or related formal declaration in case of loss, damage or theft, for citizens residing abroad or a copy of the national identity card for citizens residing in Algeria in addition to a copy of the consular registration card of those citizens registered at a diplomatic or consular post overseas as well as two recent and identical photographs in digital color.
