The Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has postponed his official visit to Algeria slated for today on account of his convalescence following the surgical operation he underwent on his left hand few days ago, an Italian governmental source has revealed.

Berlusconi’s doctors advised to him to stop his activities for at least a week forcing him to cancel his visit to Belgrade also.

The French Press Agency has reported that the Italian Premier’s visit to Algiers was postponed and not cancelled declining to give any reference on the date of the future visit.

Italia counts among the first Algerian clients in gas supply with 35 % of its overall needs through the pipeline that links Algeria to Sicily through Tunis. The annual capacity is estimated at 34 billion cubic meters.

The Italian authorities are looking forward for increasing the Algerian gas supply in the future through “ GALCI” project launched in 2003, the year where both countries have signed a friendship agreement that enabled them to foster their economic cooperation in different fields including the small and medium sized companies.
