JS Kabylie players hold smooth training session in Cairo stadium amid stringent security measures

The players of the Algerian first-division squad of JK Kabylie held Wednesday evening at 21h 30mn local time in the Military Academy stadium of Cairo a first training session ahead of their second-leg group phase fixture versus Egypt's Al Ahly team as part of the African champions' league football competition.

  • In the first-leg match played a fortnight ago in  Tizi Ouzou,  JS Kabylie outplayed Al Ahly by one goal to nil.
  • This first training session which passed off smoothly, was held amid drastic security measures.
  • The entire JS Kabylie delegation including the club’s managers, the technical staff and the players who were accompanied on the occasion by the Algerian Ambassador posted in Cairo, Mr Khaled Mechri, traveled between their place of residence at the Meridien hotel to the Cairo stadium under a heavy security escort.
  • The JS Kabylie bus was surrounded all along the way to the stadium by military and police vehicles with the obvious aim of warding off any untoward incident reminiscent of the November stoning of the Algeria team bus by misguided Egyptian fans.
  • The Egyptian authorities have obviously taken all the necessary steps to ensure the security of the Algerian delegation members who were extended a very warm welcome on the part of the Al Ahly side upon their arrival in Egypt.
  • This special greeting is in response to the hearty welcome the Egyptians received in Algeria a fortnight ago on the occasion of the first-leg African champions’ league match which opposed the two teams in Tizi Ouzou.
