Khalifa scandal: 14 suspects go to jail ahead of trial
A total of 75 suspects will appear in court starting from Tuesday for being involved in the Khalifa bank case. Of them, 14 were jailed on Monday pending for investigations as part of legal procedures, Echorouk has learnt.
Director of the bank’s agency in the province of Blida Belaid Kechad and security chief at Khalifa Bank Badereddine Chachoua were put in prison. A total of 60 suspects received notifications to appear in court. Of them, there are Saidal’s former General Director Ali Aoun and social services chief at the national police. They were acquitted as there was no evidence against them.
The national police former chief’s assistant Ada Foudad served his sentence.
According to sources, judges will hold an “extraordinary session” to deal with the case “in view of its importance. The number of witnesses is estimated at 300 and there will be tens of lawyers along with journalists.”
The suspects are accused of theft, cheating and counterfeiting.
