Libya calls for the reopening of Algiers-Tripoli air link
The Libyan Government of national unity formally asked Algeria to reopen the air-link between the two capitals, Algiers and Tripoli.
As a recall, this air-link was frozen until further notice by the Algerian civil aviation late last month for security reasons in the aftermath of the massive and unusual influx of Moroccans coming from Casablanca to Algiers airport on their transit way to Libya.
Some of these Moroccans, who had no work permit or family in Libya, were suspected of travelling to Libya so as beef up the ranks of “Daesh” affiliated terrorist groups there, but they were turned back to Morocco shortly on their arrival in Algeria.
Regarding the prohibition of entry into Algeria for the Libyan passport holders dating back to the Gaddafi era, the reason is that they don’t tally with international standards for travel documents, as they are written in ink, which could make them more easily forgeable.
And hence, the Libyan authorities are set to provide new safe and bona-fidé passports to their nationals.
All these measures have been taken to secure Algeria’s borders with Tunisia and Libya in order to ward off illegal immigration and cross-border infiltrations by terrorists into the national territory.
In so doing, the Libyan authorities have called for a bolstering of joint security cooperation in order to firmly secure the 25 crossing points between the three Maghrebian countries.
