Lieutenant General, Ahmed Gaid Salah, Deputy Minister for National Defense, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), pointed to the imperious necessity for all Algerians to duly safeguard Algeria’s fundamental values and her lofty revolutionary assets while reaffirming the firm determination of the Army to “make every effort” to defend the national borders and eradicate the remnants of terrorist groupings in the country.

In a keynote speech delivered at a symposium held under the theme: “National Liberation Army: Weapon of Information and Diplomacy,” Lieutenant General Gaid Salah reaffirmed the firm resolve of the Algerian Army, worthy successor of the National Liberation Army (ALN), to steadfastly strive to defend the national borders and stamp out the residual terrorist gangs in the country.”

The Symposium, organized Wednesday in Algiers at the National Army Center by the department of Communication, Information and Orientation of the Army Staff and attended by historic personalities as well as senior officers, was part of the program of activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the glorious National Liberation War of 1st November 1954 against the then harsh French colonial yoke.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah affirmed that the preservation of Algeria’s rich revolutionary and national fund, whose landmarks are engraved in the Algerian people’s collective memory, is a responsibility devolved upon the generations of independence.

He also underlined that “Algeria was now facing frenzied destabilization campaigns waged by the nefarious proponents of the scourge of terrorism in Algeria itself and particularly in the Arab-African region as well as by their criminal accomplices”.

“Their heinous methods are similar to those of colonialism of yesterday, but the valiant national popular Army (ANP) is strong and vigilant enough to thwart all these vile schemings hatched against Algeria’s hard-won stability and security”, Gaid Salah also underscored.

The participants brought into focus during this timely symposium the ALN’s active role and its effective participation in supporting media and diplomatic activity during the National Liberation War until Algeria wrenched her freedom and independence on July 5th 1962 thanks to the supreme sacrifice of one million and a half million glorious Martyrs.
