Madjer will get 25,000 euros per month to train Algeria

Algeria’s former international player Rabah Madjer will earn 25,000 euros per month to train the national team. This came following an agreement with the president of the Algerian Football Federation Khireddine Zatchi, a French speaking website said.

Members of the federal office unanimously agreed on dismissing Spanish coach Lucas Alcaraz as Algeria was excluded from World Cup Russia 2018’s qualifiers. They proposed to give a chance to a local trainer.

Alcaraz was appointed as Algeria coach in April. He has trained the national and local teams for six months.  

Algeria was excluded from qualifying to World Cup Russia 2018 after three consecutive defeats against Zambia and Cameroon. The local team were also excluded from reaching the African Championship of Local Players.

According to the same source, Zatchi reached an agreement to offer a salary of 25,000 euros to Madjer. This sum represents less than the half of Alcaraz’s salary (60,000 euros per month).

Madjer refused to supervise the national team during a match against Nigeria as part of the sixth and last round of World Cup’s qualifiers due to be played on November 10th in Algeria. 

He asked for a three-year-contract.

Earlier, vice-president of the Algerian Football Federation Bachir Ould Zemirli said Madjer would replace Alcaraz.

“Actually, Madjer is an option for us. He has the capacity of leading the team in view of his experience he had acquired as a brilliant player and coach,” he said.

“We also thought of Djamal Belmadi. I think it’s time to choose a national coach. He will be appointed next week,” he added.

Madjer has not decided yet about his tehnical staff.
