Ministry of Commerce decided for the first time to expand the activity and the places of “compassion markets” for the holy month of Ramadan, to include this year the food, clothing and households, as these markets also expanded many of the municipalities in Algiers and major cities, to notice in the first day of Ramadan an overwhelming response to citizens who noticed a big difference between the prices that are existing in these markets and those traded in the public markets and commercial spaces.

After these markets were monopolized by some institutions like the National Bureau of Grain and the National Foundation for Meat and some national institutions that are active in the field of food production, the list this year expanded to other institutions that are active in the garment industry and households, and services, in addition to the national compound of milk and a large number of national institutions that are specialized in the production of drinks, milk products and pasta.
Mercy markets relied on cracking food prices and offering attractive discounts, as Echorouk visited on Sunday a model of these markets, in the courtyard of the central headquarters of the General Union of Algerian Workers, and noticed a great influx of citizens from various categories, where the fresh sheep meat was sold at the price of 1200 DA, while its price reached 1500 DA in the popular markets, and the chicken prices reached 250, and was sold with 360 DA in markets, while frozen meat was sold at 550 AD.
With regard to food products that are largely consumed like semolina it was sold at the price of 40 AD per kg, and different kinds of pasta were sold at the price of 35 DA per kg, while oil price reached 560 DA per 5 liters, and grains like lentils were sold at 80 DA, rice by 90 AD.
Market noticed a stampede by citizens on buying the subsidized milk bags, that was sold in special trucks, while milk and products was sold at attractive prices like the Yogurt, that was sold at 16 DA per box, and cheese at 120 AD per box of 16 pieces, and for juices and drinks they were sold at very low prices.
