Matmour: “Defeat was severe but we are intent on carrying on with the task”

The Algerian striker, Karim Matmour, has said that the Greens of Algeria deserved better than a defeat in Wednesday's decisive World cup match versus the USA squad, a setback which disqualified them from the World cup tournament in the first round of the competition.  

• Matmour said that the national football squad were intent on carrying on with the task in order to bounce back more efficiently in the next international football joustings.
• Echorouk : What is your comment after Algeria’s defeat versus the USA?
• Matmour : I should say that our setback versus the USA team was most severe as we demonstrated throughout the match our footballing skills and resilience by creating manifold dangerous actions in the US 18 yards.
• Echorouk : The Algerian players played well but they couldn’t score any goal, why?
• Matmour : Well, we missed by a whisker to score on several occasions but we lacked the finishing touch. And we felt a great disappointment when the Americans scored their winning goal. We were at a loss in the last minutes of the game.
• Echorouk : Many sports commentators speak of a new rebirth of Algerian football in the light of the good performance displayed by the Greens in the first round of this prestigious football world contest … What is your comment?
• Matmour : Well, we have still a lot of work to do in the near future in order to further upgrade the team’s level in expectation of the next international football fixtures with a view to fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the Algerian people.
