Mayor Anne Hidalgo: Paris needs to learn from Algeria’s experience in fighting extremism

The Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo said her country wants to learn from the Amgerian experience in fighting extremism. She discussed many cooperation issues with Algerian officials, she told journalists.

Hidalgo exposed the results of her visit to Algiers. Algerian executives will take trainings sessions at the School of Architects in Paris. An accord was reached between an Algerian university and the Chemistry and Physics School in Paris.

Asked whether her visit is part of seeking Algeria’s support to France’s candidate in the presidential elections, Hidalgo said she was in Algiers in her capacity of a mayor.

Speaking about her meeting with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, she said she talked to him about the same points evoked with the other officials. “My mission is to make a better life for citizens. Local officials’ local task is related to political issues.”

She added that her visit concretises trust relation between the two countries. “Paris needs the Algerian experience in fighting extremism. Algerians overcame the black decade with bravery.”
