Medelci: Algeria does not support regimes at the expenses of people
Algerian foreign minister Mourad Medelci broke the silence about protests in Egypt and claims to topple the Mubarek regime, saying Algeria will not stand by the side of regimes at the expenses of their people.

“Algeria does not support regimes at the expenses of people,” he told reporters in Algiers on Wednesday.
“Algeria respects people and deal with governments,” he added without revealing a clear and direct position about the Egyptian president
“Algeria’s position respects people’s decision. It does not mean that we are not dealing with governments but we need to deal with them because they are appointed by people.”
Medelci described Algeria’s relationships with Tunisia and Egypt as “historic.” “In the popular level, Algeria has historic relationships with Tunisia and Egypt.”
He announced that Algeria is ready to help the Tunisian and Egyptian people if they ask it for that. “Algeria will always help those two countries so that the strong relationship between us will continue.”
On the other hand, he did not mention the nature of Algeria’s aid to the brother people.
Medelci reassured Algerians about their nationals living in Egypt. He said measures to deport nationals to Algeria were taken. Their number is estimated at 120.
The minister said a special aircraft will transport the Algerian nationals to Algeria. His statement about events in Tunisia and Egypt has been the first of its kind since protests started in both countries.
This position was described as “late.”
