Meryem Mehdi refuses to take medicines
An Algerian who has been on a hanger strike for 53 days definitively refused to take medicines and her heath state reached a dangerous stage, doctors say.
- Doctors in charge of looking after Meryem Mehdi said the government is responsible for any dangerous situation which could happen with her.
- Morocco-based Work Democratic Organisation decided to set up an international commission to show solidarity with her.
- The organisation held a meeting about the issue. It came up with the decision of an international solidarity commission to claim her right to come back to work with no conditions.
- According to a press release, what is happening to Meryem Mehdi is a human rights violation. The organisation condemned what it called “unfair dismissal” of Algerian employees from foreign companies. It also asked the British company to take back its decision.
- Secretary General of the Algerian workers’ union at foreign companies Yacine Zayed said the British Gas’ lawyer told Meryem Mehdi’s lawyer the company will boycott any negotiations with her.
