Messahel: “No Alternative to Political Solutions to Contain the Libyan Crisis”
There is no substitute for a political solution which is supported by the entire international community to contain the repercussions of the Libyan crisis, Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League Minister, Abdelkader Messahel, said on Tuesday in Tunis.
“Proposed government should quickly start its tasks, starting from the Presidential Council in Tripoli, which is the only way to achieve a new national leap.”
Messahel said, in a speech during the 8th meeting of the Libyan neighbours’ countries: “Algeria made every effort to help the Libyan brothers in the rapprochement and understanding, and it is determined today and tomorrow to stand by their side, accompanied by a national unity government during its appointment, and help it overcome the difficulties of building and constructing the new Libyan institutions, and address all the obstacles, particularly the fight against terrorism, which threatens to the Libyan entity, the security and stability of the neighbouring countries.”
In this context, Messahel asserted that: “Algeria repeatedly confirmed its rejection of a military intervention to resolve the crisis in Libya, in the strong conviction that this method is not able to settle the crisis, but on the contrary, it complicated things”.
“Experiences proved, beyond any reasonable doubt, this fact. We hope that consultations with Libya’s neighbouring countries will help the Libyans to overcome their crisis, which deepened and are directly threatening the security and stability of their country, and the region. Political consensus between the Libyans carries a lot of hope to build a better future that would establish reconciliation, security and stability, to the state institutions that are making great efforts for reconstruction, development and countering terrorism.”
