Messahel: “Opening Of Closed Border Is Linked To Security Threats, Illegal Immigration”
There are several threats and difficulties that impede the normal movement of people and goods between Algeria and a number of neighboring countries, Foreign Minister, Abdelkader Messahel, said.
“National security comes first of all in dealing with this file”.
In an interview with economic dealerships on Friday, Messahel explained that the concerns that are raised by businessmen and exporters regarding the closed border crossings with a number of neighboring countries for security reasons that are met with threats and difficulties, which make the state deals with this issue, considering that the national security comes first of all”.
“The problem of opening the borders is linked to several factors, including the security aspect and illegal immigration”, he said, adding that “There are several challenges that should be raised in this area and several threats and difficulties that will lead to the security of the country”.
“The situation on the border is not as simple as some people imagine”.
In the same context, Messahel said that Mauritania is the only neighboring country that does not have a border center in Algeria.
“For the first time, a border post will be opened in Tindouf area to enter the Mauritanian and Senegalese markets, and West Africa as well”.
