Modern, highly-specialized police, a top priority

ALGIERS- The chief of national security Major General Abdelghani Hamel said Monday his leading priority was modernization of Algerian police with highly-specialized officers.

“As soon as I become head of the institution (General Directorate of National Security), and based on the preliminary diagnosis I had made, I found it necessary to make of a new police status a top priority, to quickly improve the social and professional situation of police officers and lay the foundations of a modern, highly specialized police, over 170,000 strong,” Major general Hamel told National Radio station 3.
