Morocco begs pardon from Algeria
The Algerian foreign ministry Tuesday denied Moroccan allegations reported by media saying that Minister Ramtane Laamamra opened with his Moroccan counterpart Salaheddine Mezuar a “dialogue and consultations” to overcome tension between the two countries.
Amar Belani, spokesman for the ministry said the news reports are false and baseless and the Algerian and Moroccan foreign ministers hailed each other in a ministerial meeting held on Tuesday in Bamako.
This comes as Moroccan reports said Laamamra and Mezouar met on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting in Bamako on Tuesday organized by the United Nations.
According to the same reports, the two ministers held “bilateral talks” and Laamamra wanted to meet his Moroccan counterpart directly after the opening session.
They added that the two ministers agreed on opening a constructive dialogue and overcoming the last crisis as Morocco had called its ambassador to Algiers.
Pictures of the ministers show that they were standing up next to the door of an opened room. This raises questions about the allegations related to the opening of the “constructive dialogue.”
Earlier, a man entered the Algerian consulate in Casablanca and tore the national flag amid Moroccan protests on Algeria President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s letter to the Abuja Summit about the Western Sahara issue.
