Morocco Pays Millions Of Dollars In Bribes To Atlantic Council
In 2016, the Al-Sharif Phosphate Compound paid between US $ 250,000 and US $ 1 million to the Atlantic Council think tank for diplomatic services in favor of the file of Western Sahara that is occupied by Morocco with support from France.
The amount that was paid by Rabat was announced on the Atlantic Council website, with another donation of between $ 25,000 and $ 50,000 from the Moroccan-American Cultural Center, which is in constant touch with the Al-Sharif Phosphate Complex, which is Morocco’s main lobby.
American think tank published a list of donors for 2016, as it touched the largest oil companies in the Gulf and the United States of America.
As a result, Morocco was hoping to change the US position on the issue by betting on one of the most prominent figures in the think tank group, Peter Pham, who was then nominated to be the deputy secretary of state in charge of African affairs in the new Trump administration, but Pham now runs an Africa think tank group.
Pham, who is known to be close to Morocco, was one of the candidates to fill this important position for Africa before he was ousted.
The influential senator and friend of Western Sahara said that the U.S. administration should take a firmer stance on the status of the occupied Western Sahara territory, asserting that the position of Pham from the case does not much with the character of the official who is responsible at the state secretary, according to the magazine “Foreign Policy”.
After several months of tides, the Trump administration named Donald Yamamoto for the job last September, as many observers in Washington asserted that the latter is an excellent observer of Africa.
This is not the first time that the Al-Sharif Phosphate Complex is attracting lobbyists in the United States.
According to the American newspaper DailyCall, the funds that were paid by this institution to the former candidate Hillary Clinton translate the important funds that were mobilized by Rabat to change the US position on this file.
The Clinton Foundation received $ 15 million from Morocco’s King, Mohammed VI, to ease US sanctions on US investments in Western Sahara because of the illegal occupation of these lands.
These money was donated to the foundation when Hillary Clinton was the state secretary of the Al-Sharif Petroleum complex, by increasing the controversial exploitation of the mineral wealth of the occupied Western Sahara.
This information is added to the WikiLeaks website published news in 2016 for a donation of $ 12 million by Morocco to the Hillary Clinton Foundation to host the 2015 annual conference of the Foundation in Marrakech, and $ 1 million was paid by the Al-Sharif Phosphate Complex to cover the costs of the conference.
As Morocco spends millions of dollars each year to pressurize the congress to reverse its stance on the Western Sahara conflict, the draft law on the financing of foreign operations for state writing, that is approved by the Senate, shows that the efforts of the Sahrawi lobby, even if it is less in terms of financing has given its fruits”, according to was written the American site “monitor”, which is specialized in the Middle East and North Africa issues.
The Senate Appropriations Committee recently approved a draft budget on the financing of the state’s writing and activities in the foreign ministry, as it was reaffirmed that the US support that is given to Morocco in the occupied Western Sahara territories could be used after consultation between Congress and MINURSO.
