Mourad Meghni: “I want to play in the qualifier against Morocco”

The Lazio midfielder still hasn’t played a match for his club since his return from a long term injury but is enthusiastic about the possibility of facing the Atlas Lions on March 27th in 2012 AFCON qualifying.

“If I get called up for this match, believe me, I’d be the happiest man in the world. The miss the atmosphere in the national team so much and am impatiently waiting. Now, if the coach decides to play me then I’d be more than ready to hold my own. I have no apprehension regarding the possibility of re-injury. My knee is doing well and there’s nothing to be afraid of. In life, you have to know how to move forward,” he said.

When asked about Algeria’s chances in the game against an arguably better prepared Moroccan team, Meghni made it clear that he thought both sides had the same chances and that he hoped him and his team-mates would be able to capitalize on the home field advantage that they’ll benefit from.

“The fact that we’re playing at home constitutes an advantage for us. With that said, I hope that the fans won’t be extra pressure on us. They need to encourage us and put pressure on the opponent. In this match, it’s going to be fifty fifty for both sides. We need the points we lost to move up in our group and, god willing, we’ll be able to win. In any case, I believe in our team,” explained the Paris native.
